Mozilla Leadership Network @8th Campinas Education Week

The 8ª Semana da Educação de Campinas (in English: 8th Campinas Education Week) is an annual event to bring what’s new in formal and informal education, relevant technologies and topics of education in the big metropolis, Campinas! We, as part of the Leadership Network, we approached privacy and security in education with open tools/resources developed by Mozilla.

Bringing Leadership Network activities to this event is important to:

  • Connect educators to Leadership Network;
  • Receive feedback on the privacy and security offline tools and activities being created by Mozilla, this will allow us to understand where we need to improve and strengthen;
  • Adds value to attendees and brings a new way of thinking about privacy and security, educators can push this content after this workshop to their classrooms, students, real lives and other debates beyond the festival;
  • Teach important concepts about privacy and security using Codemoji.

Codemoji Icebreaker

Our activities started with a fun online Ice breaker! We watched the Mozilla’s Advocacy Encryption movie and I’ve made a step by step on how Codemoji works, from accessing the website on smartphones to sending/read an encrypted message using the tool to a friend, and then the attendees chosen a pair and connected to their pair using one contact app using Codemoji encryption on their smartphones apps by 4 minutes!

Data Trail Timeline

Attendees created a timeline on a poster to demonstrate how information about your movement in the real world gets collected online by companies and other organizations throughout the course of a typical day while learning about web literacy skills like protect.

Privacy Board Game Repository

This activity was very important because it allowed the start of a discussion on all the topics that the game covered such as surveillance, tracking, public WiFi security, data security on mobile devices and allowed everyone to share different ways of educating about privacy and digital security. All attendees received a e-mail from us about the Mozilla Network where they can find resources, training, forums, programs and connect to leaders around the world to get guidance and resources.
